We are always happy to welcome new faces at Explorers. Each camp has a unique feel to it, and participants soon find that they are firm friends with the people they meet at camp. Some people even describe it as a second family!

If you would like to join us at the next Explorers camp, you will need to contact our Camp Leader, Janet Rae, for an application form – details are on the contact page.

At Explorers, participants are split into small groups called patrols and each patrol has a number of disabled campers who are ‘buddied up’ with peer helpers. When you apply, you can decide which role will best fit you.

Helper

Helpers are girls aged 14-21. They will be paired up with a disabled camper to enable them to enjoy and participate in a week at camp – this might involve helping someone transfer in and out of bed or a wheelchair, accompanying them in activities or the swimming pool, feeding and personal care (washing and toileting). You will receive any training you need and there will always be staff on hand to help you if you are unsure. If you are over 16 you will need to hold or apply for a DBS check. For all helpers the staff team (including a trained nurse) are available to make sure you get the best out of your week at Explorers.

Disabled Camper

Campers are girls with disabilities aged 10-19. You might have any disability, and may be completely independent or have complex care needs. You will be buddied up with one or two helpers who will be there to ensure you can engage with the week and make sure all your care needs are met. You will be making sure that they have a great time too! If you are over 16 you may need to hold or apply for a DBS check. For all campers the staff team (including a trained nurse) are available to make sure you get the best out of your week at Explorers.
